Mac classes – November 2012
Happy November! The holidays are just around the corner, snow will soon be flying (hopefully!), and we’ll all be spending a lot more time indoors. It’s a good time to learn more about your computer, eh? Hope you can join me for a class or two!! On to the details:
On Saturday, November 17th, from 10 a.m. to noon, due to popular demand, I will once again be offering my in-depth iPhoto class. Come learn everything there is to know about Apple’s powerful digital photo organization/editing program. Is it finally time to get your photo library under control, with the added bonus of learning how easy (and fun) the process can be? Well then, this is the class for you! I will be covering both the latest version (iPhoto ’11) as well as the previous (’09) version. Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. No sign-up necessary, and it’s open to drop-ins, so come if you can!
On Saturday, November 24th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will be covering Apple’s amazing Pages program. In this class you will learn how to master their formidable word-processing/page layout program, which just happens to be a good deal more user-friendly (and fun to use) than Microsoft Word! Cost for this class is also $20, and it is held at the Ridgway Town Hall. As above, no sign-up is necessary, drop-ins are welcome!
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and that means this month it happens on Wednesday, November 28th from 5-7 p.m. These overview classes are held in the computer lab at the Ridgway Library. There are only eight seats available, and the Library has asked that I handle the sign ups, so give me a call at 970-417-8434 (or drop me an email) if you’d like to attend. (Be aware that first-timers take priority over anyone who has taken the class before, but there are often openings for repeaters).
There are six Macs in the computer lab, so only two of the eight attendees need their own laptops. This class is beginner-oriented, but we cover some different things every month; repeat attendees are encouraged (when there’s room)!
Enjoy your November everyone, and don’t forget to let me know if there’s a class you’d like me to offer!!
Mac classes – October 2012
So much for getting these newsletters out on the first of the month… Sheesh, anyone know why all our lives have gotten so busy all of the sudden?? Mine sure has… Anyway on to the details:
On Saturday, October 13th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will be offering a class covering Email & Address Book on your Mac. This class will cover all the intricacies of email (using Apple’s Mail program) and contact-management (using Apple’s Address Book program).
Ever wonder what the Bcc field is for, or how to make an email that looks colorful and professional instead of simple black-on-white text? Have you been frustrated by the complexity of creating Groups in your Address Book, and then struggled to send a message to a large group without having the message fail? This class will cover all that and more… Cost is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. No sign-up necessary; it’s open to drop-ins, so come if you can!
On Saturday, October 27th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will be revisiting my in-depth class on the iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch. WIth the release of the iPhone 5, I figured it was time to revisit my class on Apple’s “iDevices”, since they just keep getting better. The iPhone 4S has gotten much cheaper, then there’s the new third-generation iPad, not to mention the iPod Touch, they all continue to set standards that the rest of the industry struggles to match. And on top of all that, iOS 6 has just arrived as well!
Whether you’ve had one of these game-changers for years, are just now jumping on the “iOS” bandwagon with a new iPhone/iPad, or it’s simply time for you to find out what all the fuss is about, this class will teach you everything you need to know about these amazing devices. Cost for this class is also $20, and it is held at the Ridgway Town Hall. As above, no sign-up is necessary, drop-ins are welcome!
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and that means this month it happens on Wednesday, October 31st from 5-7 p.m.
Have a lovely October everyone!
Mac Classes – September ’12
Wow, how did it get to be September already?? Anyone else feel like things are getting just a little out of control in the flying-time department? Oh well, at least we have Mac classes to keep us entertained while we’re flying, right? On to the details:
On Saturday, September 15th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will once again be offering my popular iPhoto class.
On Saturday, September 29th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will be revisiting the topic of Social Networking. In this class I will cover Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., etc. The emphasis will be on figuring out how to navigate these wild & crazy new social fads, especially as more and more changes happen (over and over again!) on Facebook & now Google+ as well… At the same time, you’ll learn how to maintain the privacy levels we all prefer. If there’s interest, I will also cover the ways in which these tools can be put to use in marketing a business. Cost for this class is also $20, and it is held at the Ridgway Town Hall. As above, no sign-up is necessary, drop-ins are welcome!
Then, don’t forget…
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and this month it happens on Wednesday, September 26th from 5-7 p.m.
And here’s hoping you all enjoy a gorgeous Indian Summer in the coming weeks!
Mac Classes – August ’12
Wow, it’s August 23rd, and I’m just now realizing that I forgot to post my August class news here! If I have an excuse (questionable, I know), it’s that I was on vacation when I sent out the newsletter from MailChimp… Oh well, with any luck, there are still a few folks that follow my class news here, and will be happy to find out about the two classes I’m offering this month. Fortunately, this first one is this Saturday…
If it’s not already obvious, this month is so busy that I only have time for one focused class, then the regular Overview class at the end of the month at the Library. I’m really hoping to get back to normal in September. Anyway, on to the details:
On this Saturday, August 25th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will once again present my in-depth class on the iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch. WIth the release of the latest iPhone supposedly coming in mid-September, I figured it was time to revisit my class on Apple’s “iDevices”, since they just keep getting better. The iPhone 4S, the iPod Touch, the new third-generation iPad, and now whatever they’ll call the newest iPhone, they all continue to set standards that the rest of the industry struggles to match. And on top of all that, iOS 6 is just around the corner as well!
Whether you’ve had one of these game-changers for years, are just now jumping on the “iOS” bandwagon with a new iPhone/iPad, or it’s simply time for you to find out what all the fuss is about, this class will teach you everything you need to know about these amazing devices. Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. Sign-up is not necessary, drop-ins are welcome!
Then, as I said, due to yet another crazy summer month of commitments, the last class of August will be…
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and this month that means it happens on Wednesday, August 29th from 5-7 p.m.
I’ll be posting September’s class news soon, so stay tuned…
Mac Classes – July ’12
Can you believe it? The first half of 2012 is behind us, and we’re still praying for rain. Ridgway’s music in the park starts Thursday, and the Farmer’s Market has finally moved Town Park as well. It may be dry as a bone out there, but there’s still a ton of great stuff going on all around!
As I did for June, again due to a very busy schedule, I’m going to be limited to just one Saturday class, and then the free overview class at the end of the month. Here are the specifics:
On Saturday, July 21st, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will once again be offering my popular iPhoto class.
Lastly, as I said, due to very busy summer schedule, the only other class for July will be…
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and this month that means it happens on Wednesday, July 25th from 5-7 p.m. These overview classes are held in the computer lab at the Ridgway Library. There are only eight seats available, and the Library has asked that I handle the sign ups, so give me a call at 970-417-8434 (or drop me an email) if you’d like to attend. Take care everyone, and have a great month!!
Mac Classes – June ’12
Wow, June 5th already? I’m not sure how it got to be the middle of the first week of June without me getting this newsletter out, but I guess it gives you an idea of how crazy my life is right now!
Speaking of which, there’s so much going on for me this month that I’m going to be limited to just one Saturday class, and then the free overview class at the end of the month. Here are the specifics:
Adding to the wackyness, my lone focused class this month is just four days away! On this coming Saturday, June 9th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will again present my in-depth class on the iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch. It is amazing that in just five short years, Apple has built a juggernaut of a product line of “iDevices”, and they just keep getting better. The iPhone 4S, the iPod Touch, and now the new third-generation iPad, they all continue to set standards that the rest of the industry struggles to match.
Then, as I said, due to a mid-month filled with weddings and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival (my favorite thing to do every year), the only other class for June will be…
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class, which takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and this month that means it happens on Wednesday, June 27th from 5-7 p.m.
Hope you keep having a great month!! 😉
And of course, let me know if there’s something else you’d like me to consider covering in the Saturday sessions.
Mac Classes – May ’12
Welcome to May everyone!
Here’s hoping you had a wonderful time dancing around the Maypole yesterday! What better way to spend a Monday, eh? On to the class news for the month:
On Saturday, May 12th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will once again be offering my popular iPhoto class.
Then, on Saturday, May 26th, from 10 a.m. to noon, I will be presenting a new class: Introduction to WordPress. This will definitely be an intro-level class, covering the basics of setting up a new WordPress site, or administering one that’s already set up. For simplicity’s sake, I will demonstrate the process available at wordpress.com that allows you to get started with a new blog in minutes, without having to buy a domain name or figure out a host to use. However, migrating your new site to a custom domain/host is easy to do later.
If you’ve been wondering how difficult it might be to start your own website/blog, and what the process involves, then plan on joining me for this informative session! Again, cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. Sign-up is not necessary, drop-ins are welcome!
Lastly…
The regular FREE “Overview of Mac OS X” class takes place on the last Wednesday of every month, and this month that means it happens on Wednesday, May 30th from 5-7 p.m.
Take care everyone, and have a great month!!
And as always, let me know if there’s something else you’d like me to consider covering in the Saturday sessions.
