Mac Classes – February 2014

Wow, I hope not too many of you are Broncos fans. That was one awful Super Bowl, eh? Ah well, at least we have Mac (and iPad/iPhone) classes to look forward to!

Class list for February 2014:

Sat., February 8th, from 10-noon: iMovie on the Mac!; Ridgway Town Hall
Sat., February 22nd, from 10 am-2 pm (in Telluride): iPhone-ography; Ah Haa School, Telluride
Wed., February 26th, from 5-7 pm: FREE Mac OS X Overview; Ridgway Library
Sat., March 1st, from 1-4 pm: iPhone-ography; Weehawken Ridgway

REMINDER: for the Saturday classes, I’m going to trying something new this year. I have to ask that you let me know if you’re planning to attend those classes, and if at least 4 people haven’t expressed interest by the Friday before, I’ll have to cancel that class. Unfortunately, I had a couple months last year where only one person (or none) showed up, and I’m afraid that just can’t work for me anymore. I hope you understand!

The details:

 First off, this coming Saturday, February 8th, from 10 am to noon, I’m offering another popular class: iMovie on the Mac! With the ubiquity of HD video these days, whether it’s from your iPhone, iPad, or your little point-and-shoot, you’ve likely got lots of video clips that you’d like to turn into a polished project to wow your friends and family. If so, this class is for you! Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. As mentioned above, it’s open to drop-ins, but please let me know if you plan on coming!

 Now, a head’s up: I’m teaching two iPhone-ography (iPhone photography) classes in the next month; one through the Ah Haa School in Telluride and the other through Weehawken Creative Arts in Ridgway. They take place on February 22nd and March 1st, respectively. More info here for the Telluride class, and here for the Weehawken class. Feel free to call me if you have questions about either of those classes (number below).

 Lastly, I will be doing my regular last-Wednesday-of-the-month class at the Library. This month, it’s the FREE Mac OS X Overview, on Wednesday, February 26th from 5-7 pm. This class is held in the computer lab. Space is limited, so you have to sign up, and the Library has asked that I handle the sign ups, so give me a call at 970-417-8434 (or drop me an email) if you’d like to attend. (Be aware that first-timers take priority over anyone who has taken the class before, but there are often openings for repeaters).

For the Mac Overview, there are six Macs in the computer lab, so only two of the eight attendees need their own laptops. This class is beginner-oriented, but we cover some different things every month; repeat attendees are encouraged (when there’s room)!

Take care everyone!

Mac Classes – January 2014

Happy 2014 everyone! I’m wishing you all the best in the new year: peace, prosperity and (of course) that new Apple gadget you’ve been wanting!!

On to this month’s class news…

Class list for January 2014:

Sat., January 11th, from 10-noon: Social Networking; Ridgway Town Hall
Sat., January 25th, from 10-noon: iPhoto; Ridgway Town Hall
Wed., January 29th, from 5-7 pm: FREE iPad/iPhone Overview; Ridgway Library

For the Saturday classes, I’m going to have to try something new this year. I need to ask that you let me know if you’re planning to attend any of those classes, and if at least 4 people haven’t expressed interest by the Friday before, I’ll have to cancel that class. Unfortunately, I had a couple months last year where only one person (or none) showed up, and I’m afraid that just can’t work for me anymore. I hope you understand!

The details:

 First, on Saturday, January 11th, from 10 am to noon, I will be revisiting the topic of Social Networking. Is one of your New Years Resolutions to finally build yourself that Facebook page, or try Twitter or even Instagram? In this class I will cover those, plus Google+, LinkedIn, and just about anything else you can think of in the social networking realm. The emphasis will be on figuring out how to navigate these popular social sites, especially as the way they work is constantly being updated and changed! At the same time, you’ll learn how to maintain the levels of privacy we all prefer. Of course, I will also cover the ways in which these tools can be put to use in marketing a business. Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. Open to drop-ins (but see note about Saturday classes above), so come if you can!

 Then, on Saturday, January 25th, from 10 am to noon, (since the Dec. class didn’t go) I will once again be offering my in-depth class on iPhoto. Come learn everything there is to know about Apple’s powerful digital image organization/editing program. It’s a new year, so maybe it’s finally time to get your photo library under control, with the added bonus of learning how easy (and fun) the process can be! This class will primarily cover the latest version, iPhoto ’11. Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. As above, let me know if you’re planning to come, but feel free to drop-in too!

 Lastly, I will be doing my regular last-Wednesday-of-the-month class at the Library on Wednesday, January 29th from 5-7 pm. This month, it’s the FREE iPad/iPhone Overview.

For the iPad/iPhone Overview, you’ll need to bring your own device. For the Mac Overview, there are six Macs in the computer lab, so only two of the eight attendees need their own laptops. This class is beginner-oriented, but we cover some different things every month; repeat attendees are encouraged (when there’s room)!

Take care everyone, and have a great first month of 2014!!

Mac Classes – December 2013

Happy Holidaze everyone! I hope your holiday season has been sweet so far, and that December holds even more promise.

As I mentioned last month, it’s the time of year when we all get very busy with lots of holiday activities, and it’s tough to squeeze it all in. So again, I’ve decided to offer just one focused class for this month (as I did in November). On to the details…

Class list for December 2013:

Sat., December 14th, from 10-noon: iPhoto; Ridgway Town Hall
Wed., December 18th, from 5-7 pm: FREE Mac OS X Overview; Ridgway Library

The details:

 For my only focused class this month, on Saturday, December 14th, from 10 am to noon, I’m offering my most popular class: iPhoto. Come learn everything there is to know about Apple’s powerful digital image organization/editing program. Is it finally time to get your photo library under control, with the added bonus of learning how easy (and fun) the process can be? Well then, this is the class for you! I will primarily cover the latest version (iPhoto ’11) but can touch on the previous (’09) version when necessary. Cost for this class is $20, and it will be held at the Ridgway Town Hall. No sign-up necessary, and it’s open to drop-ins, so come if you can!

 Lastly, I will be doing my regular last-Wednesday-of-the-month class at the Library. (Be aware that first-timers take priority over anyone who has taken the class before, but there are often openings for repeaters). AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: I am moving this class from the last Wednesday of the month to the third Wednesday, due to the holiday!

For the iPad/iPhone Overview, you’ll need to bring your own device. For the Mac Overview, there are six Macs in the computer lab, so only two of the eight attendees need their own laptops. *UPDATE*: I have moved the iPad/iPhone Overview class to November 20th (from the 27th), and I believe it’s full. Let me know if you’d like to be placed on a waiting list!

As I write this, they’re predicting snow and a low of about 15 degrees tonight. I guess winter is coming whether we’re ready or not… I’m not ready, but I will be soon enough!

I’ve been struggling with what classes to offer this month and when. It’s that time of year when we all get busy with lots of holiday (and pre-holiday) activities, and it’s tough to compete. So I’ve decided to offer just one focused class for both November and December. On to the details…

June Class Updates!

I have two changes to this month’s class schedule:

 Firstly, I’m afraid I have to cancel tonight’s Free Overview of Mac OS X class at the Ridgway Library. No has signed up as of yet, and I have other commitments, so we’ll just try again next month!

 Secondly, I need to move this coming Saturday’s iTunes class to the following Saturday, June 29th, from 10-noon at the Ridgway Town Hall.

I apologize for the last-minute nature of these changes, but I’m afraid it’s unavoidable. Thanks for understanding, and I hope to see you at a class soon!

Happy summer!
