Travellin’ fools!

It has again been a *long* time since I last posted. I apologize, but I’ve simply had too many more pressing things on my plate. Such is life sometimes…

My wife Mallory and I are leaving today for a two-and-a-half week trip to England and Ireland, so I’ve decided to use this opportunity to do a little travel-blogging as well as to show how the iPhone can be an all-purpose travel computer.

To give you a few examples: I have all my travel documents on the phone, in an app called Good Reader, as well as our complete itinerary in one called TripTracker. I’ve used a few UK/Ireland-specific apps to do prep for the trip, and plan to use several different navigation and map apps to find our way around. Also, I’ll be using email and Skype to stay in touch with friends and family back home. There’s a lot of chatter online about the potential high-cost of using an iPhone overseas, but I’ve signed up for about $30 worth of extra coverage that should handle all my needs, based on my last few month’s usage. We shall see!

I hope to be able to post daily, depending on available Internet (I’ll be trying to use WiFi as much as possible to keep my data usage manageable). And if I was using a laptop instead, it would likely be my only option!

Anyway, keep checking back over the next few weeks; I look forward to reading your responses!
